Born in 2011, the Ski-Doo Freeride is a specialized model designed to meet the needs of snowmobilers operating at the very limit of the Summit models’ capabilities – a deep-snow, overpowered machine full of style for those who love ledges and big jumps. It was around this time that off-trail snowmobiling began to gain popularity, not just in the West, but around the world. It was this that sparked interest in the agility, ruggedness and unique attitude of the Freeride.

BRP responded by offering, in addition to the 371 cm (146″) track, a 348 cm (137″) version, and a 391 cm (154″) version. Snowmobilers everywhere could now choose the track that suited their riding style and terrain conditions – and both sales and the number of freeride riders continued to grow.

For 2018, BRP has completely transformed the Freeride with the REV Gen4 platform and Rotax 850 E-TEC engine. The lightweight, narrow, ultra-agile chassis provides incredible control in deep snow, through trees and in the air. The power and quick response of the 850 E-TEC allows the rider to do whatever they want with their machine. Not to mention a new 420 cm (165″) version.

Freeride enthusiasts who push the limits of their sport are sure to enjoy the agility, liveliness and deep snow characteristics of the REV Gen4 platform. Especially with the 391 cm and 419 cm (154 in. and 165 in.) models, whose narrower ski spacing (90.7 cm/35.7 in.) makes it easier to lean the vehicle. On the 348 cm, 371 cm and 391 cm S-38 (137″, 146″ and 154″ S-38) models, the ski gap remains at 96.5 cm (38″) as this is the ideal width to maximize stability and the ability to lean the snowmobile. But what will really take them over the edge is the 4th generation REV’s design. It gives the rider a lot of room: the narrow seat and shape, the open toe box, the flatter running boards and the extra room up front. Even the controls take up less space. As with previous Freeride models, the running boards are heavy-duty, and the KYB PRO shocks are ready to handle landings.

All consumers who choose a Freeride model can reduce ride fatigue and increase enjoyment with the remarkable new SHOT starter technology. Without adding the weight of an electric starter, the SHOT starter provides a start button to reduce fatigue caused by repeated manual starts. After the first start, this exclusive E-TEC system charges the lightweight SHOT Supercapacitor and on subsequent starts, the stored energy is used to operate the magneto to turn the crankshaft and start the engine.

For 2018, the Freeride returns to the sleek white color scheme, the perfect choice to add a graphic package that reflects the owner’s personality.

The 2018 Ski-Doo Freeride is offered only as a spring exclusive.

PLATEFORM

NEW – REV Gen4 Platform: Designed with the Rotax 850 E-TEC engine to create the best handling mountain snowmobile available. Centralized weight distribution – especially side-to-side – makes handling a breeze. The Freeride version of the 4th generation REV platform was designed specifically for mountain snowmobilers, with an extremely compact fuel tank and seat, a more forward position when cornering and flat running boards. The narrow side panels, hull, tunnel and running boards are designed to optimize snow handling for easier, more predictable riding in all conditions.

SUSPENSION

UPDATE – tMotion Rear Suspension – 371, 391, 419 cm (146, 154, 165 in.): A pivoting rear arm and split front arm allow the suspension to flex laterally for easier snowmobile handling. Its more progressive travel ratio provides more comfort and capability. This upgraded version is 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs) lighter than the REV Gen4.

rMotion rear suspension – 137″ (348 cm): THE benchmark for comfort, capability and adjustability. The design provides a smoother ride over small bumps and increases the vehicle’s capability over large bumps. The rear axle reduces weight and works in conjunction with the FlexEdge track for easier maneuvering in deep snow. Adjusting the shocks, springs and transfer blocks is easy, and the “1” transfer block setting decouples the suspension to provide agile slalom in deep snow.

Rear suspension rail reinforcement: Reinforcement that provides more strength during hard landings.

KYB Pro 40 Piggyback Rear Shock Absorbers: Exceptional capacity and durability for better control in the toughest conditions. A simple knob allows you to adjust the compression speed without tools.

NEW – RAS 3 Front Suspension: With similar geometry and design as the stable and precise RAS 2, optimized for the REV Gen4 platform, with 20 mm (0.8 in.) longer strut and 0.3 kg (0.7 lb.) weight reduction.

NEW – KYB Pro 36 R piggyback front shocks: New shocks with exceptional capacity and durability for better control in the toughest conditions. The new design provides better calibration as standard and a wider range of adjustment. Easy adjustment knobs for compression and rebound are included.

Quick Sway Bar Disengagement: Engage and disengage the sway bar in seconds, without tools. Keep it in place on the trail and disengage it in powder.

KEY FEATURES

Narrower Ski Gap: The skis on the 391 cm and 419 cm (154″ and 165″) models have a 90.7 cm (35.7″) gap to make the front as easy to lean as the back. The 97.5 cm (38.4 in.) spread on the 348 cm, 371 cm and 391 cm S-38 (137 in., 146 in. and 154 in. S-38) models is the ideal width to maximize stability and tilting ability. In addition, the gap can be increased by 4.3 cm (1.7 in.) on all versions to increase stability for different riding styles and conditions.

NEW – Tunnel Design: Beveled shape allows for a narrower fuel tank and seat width to maximize movement space. Open flap design eliminates friction in deep snow.

NEW – pDrive Drive Pulley with Adjustment Pawl: Newly redesigned clutch with fast, frictionless dual rollers to transfer engine torque instead of traditional knobs. Large rollers with needle bearings, wide seat centrifugal mass and dual axle design for smoother ride and longer life. With easy maximum speed adjustment. Very light and maintenance-free, it provides extremely fast shifting and remarkably consistent rpm.

Brembo Disc Brake: Hydraulic system created by the world leader in the industry, featuring race-style brake pads that provide powerful, long-lasting braking capability. Stainless steel braided line.

NEW – Ergo-Step Side Panels: The ergonomic shape of the rear section of the panels provides support for the driver’s legs in downhill situations. The narrow profile and shape of the underside reduces the contact of the panels with the snow when driving on a mountainside. The shape of the lower panel is designed to increase flotation in deep snow and on mountainsides.

NEW – Open toe box: More space than ever for the driver’s feet, especially useful when driving off-road.

NEW – Lightweight seat designed for the mountain: Extremely compact so it doesn’t interfere with the movement needed to ride in powder. Just enough support for movement on the trails you need to get from one playground to the next.

NEW – Compact Digital Gauge: Its large digit display presents all essential data in a concise manner, perfectly positioned to be seen by a standing driver.

NEW – Lightweight, mountain-ready handlebar controls: Even more compact so they don’t interfere with rider movement. Heated thumb switches and heated grips on the console. Even better protected RER reverse control

UPDATE – Aluminum Handlebars with Stiff Grip: Strong, lightweight, good-looking handlebars with a new U-shape. The rigid grip provides better leverage and confidence during more technical maneuvers.

UPDATE – Glove Box: 4L glove box located under the windshield and heated by the engine compartment. Ideal for storing spare gloves or glasses. Improved seal for better protection against moisture. Ready for installation of USB and 12V outlets (wiring and position).

Rotax Electronic Reverse (RER): A system that weighs almost nothing as a simple button reverses the direction of the engine.

DESS RF Key: Ball-and-socket assembly with RFID chip ensures a solid connection.

Sea Level Calibration: Many riders who snowmobile at lower elevations choose the Freeride model for use in deep snow or on lower slopes. To accommodate this need, BRP offers two drivetrain calibrations: a high altitude calibration for altitudes over 1220 m (4000 ft), and a sea level calibration for altitudes below 1220 m (4000 ft).

Accessory Ready: The vehicle has been factory prepared for easy installation of over 100 Ski-Doo accessories for the REV Gen4 platform: LinQ system, skid plates, vented side panel kit, LED auxiliary light, GPS receiver, 1+1 seat, windshield choices, and more.
