2022 YAMAHA SIDEWINDER S-TX GT EPS – PERFORMANCE
- Yamaha wanted an exceptionally responsive engine with little or no lag (lag is common in conventional turbo engines). One way to achieve their goal was to develop an intake system with three separate throttle bodies positioned close to the intake valves, rather than a single throttle body feeding long intake runners – this innovative design is unheard of anywhere else on the planet, and is a first for Yamaha with its Genesis turbo engine!
- The turbine housing, made of a nickel alloy, is extremely strong and precise, well able to withstand high temperatures. The turbine’s Iconel® blades are supported by high quality ceramic ball bearings and are very light and strong. This results in a low moment of inertia, which in turn leads to lightning-fast responses to exhaust gas data capture. Three intake housings are used exclusively to further accelerate the delivery of compressed air from the turbine to the intake valves.The Mitsubishi MCE, developed by Yamaha, leverages nine (9) sensors that collect data on operating conditions, using a predetermined memory configuration. Armed with this data, the ECM adjusts ignition timing, fuel injection, intake manifold air pressure and turbo boost pressure to reliably maximize engine performance under any circumstance.The SRV chassis uses a triangulated support structure and lightweight aluminum to provide a snowmobile that is perfectly balanced and centered around the rider. The pyramid-shaped upper part of the frame gives the chassis strength without making it heavy.
2022 YAMAHA SIDEWINDER S-TX GT EPS – MANIABILITY
- When the throttles are closed, engine braking in a 4-stroke engine has a marked effect on the handling of the sled and the riding experience. Yamaha developed a special system that leverages the idle speed control (ISC) circuitry and ECM mapping, based on throttle travel and engine speed to reduce negative intake pressure during deceleration.
- Camso’s 146-inch RipSaw track with 1.25-inch lugs, considered the best high-performance track on the market, accelerates, brakes and waltzes like a virtuoso in a wide range of conditions.
- The Sidewinder S-TX GT boasts Fox QS3 adjustable front amortos and aluminum-bodied GHP (high pressure gas) amortos in the back to beautifully resist sagging and handle all trail hazards.
- Yamaha’s single-keel skis strike a delicate balance between light handlebar effort and precise handling over a wide range of snow conditions. Offset carbide rails further enhance steering responsiveness. A unique cushioned wedge combines with the rubber stop to adjust the pressure point on the carbide rail. Overall ski spacing is also adjustable – just move the thick shim on each ski stub to the opposite side.
COMFORT
- Both rider and passenger have access to convenient RCA (audio output) jacks with a DC power connector that accommodates the heated visor plug of their helmets, plus a DC plug in the console that powers other 12-volt accessories.
- Both can keep warm by adjusting the heat intensity of their heated grips. Passengers also get deflectors mounted on their grab bars to keep their hands safe from wind and debris on the trail.
- The medium height windshield, made of smoke-tinted polycarbonate, was designed to protect the snowmobiler traveling long distances in freezing weather. The top of the windshield has a small lip that deflects wind and snow up and over the snowmobiler at high speeds, while the flared edges provide added protection and warmth for the hands. This GT (grand touring) windshield was also designed to accommodate the optional mirrors. It’s thicker than a standard windshield, so it dampens mirror vibrations during high-speed rides, and it also has marked indentations for easy installation of optional mirrors.
- One of the switches on the left side console allows you to change the heat intensity of the heated grips and thumb warmer “on the fly”. A convenient rocker switch is used to select information on the dashboard, and the push-button for reverse gear, also integrated into the left-hand grip, is just as easy to select. On the right, the bald handle includes the ergonomic throttle and the self-contained emergency engine cut-off. The Hayes “Stealth” brake cylinder is paired with the composite brake lever to provide excellent modulation, feel and braking power.
