2017 Yamaha VK540 – The new VK540 marks the return of the legendary snowmobile, but this new iteration features a wide track and is overflowing with changes and updates. Among other things, the bodywork has been redesigned, the rear suspension has torsion springs, the track has long bars, and the ergonomics have been redesigned. Its 540-arc fan-cooled engine is back with a new ignition system and a heated flat slide carburetor to keep you working hard for hours. Oh… and it’s got a 50 percent increase in range thanks to a more efficient combustion and increased fuel tank capacity. When reliability and functionality are critical, the VK540 is the workhorse for you!

PERFORMANCE
535 cm³ two-stroke engine cooled by axial fan
This proven design is known in its class for its rock-solid reliability. With a new high-powered magneto, ignition system and carburetor, the VK540 is even more efficient and will start every time with a twist of the key or a pull of the auxiliary recoil starter.
Three-speed transmission
The HI/LO transmission with reverse offers great versatility. In LO mode, you can pull heavy loads. Then, with the flip of a lever, you’ll switch to HI mode, which is designed for higher speed rides.
400 W high power AC alternator/magneto
Produces enough power to drive the new CDI digital ignition, heat the carburetor, illuminate the two headlight bulbs and activate the heated grips and other accessories.
Mikuni TM 33 flat slide carburetor
Provides excellent acceleration, while reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency by 25%.
Electrically heated carburetor
Two heating elements stabilize the idle speed when the engine warms up (no need to open the enricher again and again to avoid stalling) and reduce spark plug fouling. It also reduces carburetor freeze-up for consistent performance in extreme cold.
44 liter tank
This large tank teams up with the increased fuel efficiency of the updated engine to give the VK540 almost twice the range of its predecessors.
Camoplast Cobra 1.5 WT track
The main purpose of the 20 x 154 x 1.5 inch Cobra track is to maximize flotation and pulling power. The 1.5 inch bars are perfect for low speed use or when you need to tow large loads. This track enhances the performance of the legendary VK in deep snow.
Two-bulb headlight
As part of the redesign, the VK540 inherited a two-bulb headlight. The new headlight is brighter than the old one and fits much better with the silhouette of the snowmobile.
Reduced snow accumulation
The new tunnel features snow drainage holes on the running boards. The tunnel is made of lightweight, high-strength steel to maintain the VK540’s legendary durability in the worst conditions.
Utility style
The completely redesigned VK540 looks modern and robust. The new hood, the result of a long-term redesign project, minimizes snow ingestion into the engine block. This is of paramount importance in the far north, where fine snow crystals seep into the engine and turn to ice.
LED tail light
This high-intensity tail/brake light is lighter and brighter than a traditional incandescent bulb and lasts much longer
Heavy-duty mirrors
Large mirrors help you see what’s behind you. They are attached to the inner portion of the windshield, keeping them safe from damage.

Reliable TSS front suspension
Yamaha has made it their business. With no suspension arms or rods to drag in the snow, the TSS suspension is the ultimate utility suspension.
Large plastic skis
The wide, plastic PEhpm mountain skis improve front flotation, offer predictable handling and great resistance to impact and wet, sticky snow.
Rear suspension with two torsion spring shocks
The new VK relies on Yamaha’s VK Professional rear suspension frame. This long-travel suspension improves the VK540’s comfort, transfer and towing capabilities. The addition of articulated rails at the rear helps smooth out the terrain when backing up in deep snow.
