2022 Ski-Doo Backcountry X-RS

OVERVIEW

The Backcountry X-RS snowmobiler doesn’t watch the weather, and he doesn’t worry about conditions or terrain. He’s ready to attack and conquer whatever the day throws at him. Whether it’s taming powder in the backcountry or slaloming down rough and bumpy trails, it’s ready. So is the Backcountry X-RS.  

Drawing on race-proven technologies and designs in deep snow, the Backcountry X-RS offers a high degree of versatility and capability to tackle any situation. For starters, the ultra-dynamic REV Gen4 platform with center-balanced engine and open cockpit is especially easy to angle for carving powder and stays flat on hardpack trails. Rugged features like the flatter, reinforced RS running boards and KYB PRO shocks allow the rider to dominate rough terrain without worry, and the long track provides a high degree of flotation when the adventure moves into the powder.  

X-RS snowmobilers can combine the cMotion hybrid rear suspension and raised track with a 146- or 154-inch track for impressive off-trail flotation and remarkable response on twisty trails. With the combination of the split damping ratios and progressive damping of the rMotion with the decoupled dynamics of the tMotion, the cMotion is an ideal choice for snowmobilers who like to spend time hitting the bumps on the trail, then switch to technical slalom in the woods.

The cMotion combines with the RAS 3 front suspension with adjustable ski spacing and KYB PRO 36 R Easy-Adjust shocks to allow the rider to adjust to the challenges of the terrain. Reassuring on rough terrain, the X-RS grips tight turns with ease for effortless control on the trail.

PLATFORM  

REV Gen4 Platform: The REV Gen4 hybrid platform provides effortless handling on and off the trail. It’s precise in turns and confident on bumpy trails, and its centralized mass makes for a nimble and fun ride that reacts instantly to the rider’s commands when riding off-road. 

SUSPENSION  

cMotion rear suspension: The cMotion inherits the best features of the trail rMotion and the mount tMotion. With its progressive travel ratio, it is specifically designed for hybrid use, truly 50-50. Its superior bump-absorbing ability is due to the separation of the spring and shock damping ratios – a feature unique to all Ski-Doo rear suspensions. Tight turns are a breeze thanks to the curved rails that allow the track to negotiate the path ultra-precisely, with the feel of a shorter track, while maintaining high trail speed. The rigid front and rear arms and decoupled design provide excellent weight transfer and ensure immediate response to driver commands in off-trail situations. 

RAS 3 Hybrid Front Suspension: Provides the best balance of geometry and width for trail and mountain snowmobiles, giving you the precision you need on the trail and the agility you want off the trail. High-tech front suspension with unequal A-arms for the 50-50 hybrid snowmobiler.  

HPG Rear Shock Absorbers: KYB high-pressure gas shocks at the rear. 

KEY FEATURES

Ergo-Step Side Panels: A design that offers a natural progression between three riding positions for different cornering styles, with an extreme forward position. Open toe box: The freedom to choose. Allows the driver to pivot the outside foot naturally in tight turns. Accessories are available to customize the foot hold to suit the driving style.

Deep snow running boards: 40% larger front openings allow for easier snow evacuation. Flat foot position with 30% more grip for more comfort and control, and a 363g (0.8 lb) weight reduction.

15″ x 146″ x 1.6″ (38″ x 327″ x 4.1″) Cobra Track: Features a combination of soft studs for increased traction off-trail and stiffer studs for increased traction on particularly compact snow.  

Pilot DS 2 Skis: Narrow, thin and stiff skis with a high performance centerpin on the side of the mountain thanks to thin edges that bite into the snow. Shorter in the back of the leg, they reduce the effort required for countersteering and driving on the side of the mountain. 

Adjustable Ski Gap: Snowmobilers can choose from a wider 40.1″ (102 cm) gap for trail riding, or a narrower 38.4″ (97.5 cm) gap for off-road and mountainside riding. 

pDrive Drive Pulley with Adjustment Pawl: Completely redesigned clutch with fast, frictionless dual rollers to transfer engine torque instead of traditional knobs. Large rollers with needle bearings, wide seat centrifugal mass and dual-axis design provide a smoother ride and longer life. Ratchet ramps allow for easy adjustment to achieve optimum rpm. The lightweight, maintenance-free clutch provides extremely fast shifting and remarkably consistent rpm. The fixed flange is finned to circulate more air – combined with the new belt guard to improve airflow and cooling. 

Brembo Disc Brake: Hydraulic brake renowned for its stopping power and durability. Stainless steel braided brake line provides greater sensitivity and more efficient braking. 

Rotax Electronic Reverse (RER): A system that weighs almost nothing as a single button reverses the direction of the engine. 

Performance Trail Seat: Narrow design for easy side-to-side, forward and backward movement. Wider and flatter rear section for more comfort. 

Aluminum Handlebars with Rigid Grip: Ride with confidence on a sturdy, lightweight, good-looking U-shaped handlebar with J-hooks. The rigid grip provides better leverage for more technical maneuvers

4.5″ Digital Display: Fully digital LCD instrument panel with an adjustable, flatter display that is easy to view while sitting or standing. 

Glove box: 4L glove box ideal for storing gloves or spare glasses. Improved seal for better protection against moisture. Ready for installation of USB and 12V plugs (wiring and position).
