Thermacell Heating Plates – Test. Thermacell Heat Plates are available in two versions: a pair of hand warmers to slip into mittens or a larger plate to put in pockets.

They are also rechargeable equipment to provide warmth to hands in the open air. The lithium-ion polymer battery is located in the hollow of a thermoplastic shell and supplies energy to the heating element, which diffuses the heat through a silicone membrane. Well built, the device is pleasant to handle and the workmanship exudes quality.

Like the Thermacell Proflex Heated Insoles, the temperature is controlled to release energy consistently at three settings: low (106°F); medium (110°F); high (116°F). The unit can be easily turned off to conserve energy. The unit takes 4 hours to recharge and can provide up to 6 hours of heat in low mode. Again, our observations to this effect are consistent with the manufacturer’s claims.

Themacell products are smartly designed and the build quality is undeniable. The rechargeable nature of the devices will require more sophisticated energy management, but it is possible to operate anyway. The products are recommended, keeping the invoice for the one-year warranty of the heating inserts, just in case…
